![]() ![]() Some minor flaws here are the berry bushes inside of woods showing their translucency outline some houses are map copied together in a mash of symmetry with no rotations added. The forests and countryside provided a pleasant canvass for spilling turk blood, and the city was fairly decent as well. Its a nice looking map, featuring many military camps that did a good job of conveying army encampments. The finale boss battle was very underwhelming, infact i could even kill him without his guards noticing. I would have liked to see some optional objectives actually hurting the turk army, but skipable if one chooses. ![]() Its a bit underwhelming here, with a lack of optional choices hurting replayability a bit, and a quite straightforward affair overall. If you attack headon across the bridge, instead of luring the bombards out like i did, you certainly wont have this problem. Infact i had 119 soldiers remaining at the end, but i do believe i simply over-played the game without constantly microing soldiers the losses will certainly build up. It turned out i was able to defeat the ottomans far more easily than the author had perhaps imagined, having a large army while the final boss, as it were, was easily slain. Even so, some micro to pull injured soldiers off the line will be needed as the turk guns hurt hard, and you cannot be too reckless. The players force is sufficient to continue pressing forward, without feeling compelled to use lure tactics or stop and heal every moment. This scenario presented a well balanced game, although i do feel its more aimed at less experienced players, as on Hard i received more troops than were needed to accomplish the players objectives. ![]() On the topic of pathfinding, its a very minor point but there was a weirdly designed military camp that actually couldnt be walked through until some yurts were broken, due to their large hitboxes. Surprisingly, being HD edition, there were no performance issues and the good map design helped playability by making pathfinding not a nightmare. I found it a quite enjoyable romp sweeping through the numerous but weak ottoman force. The game presents a Fixed Force relief mission in which you lift a siege by smashing the encamped ottomans. I played on Hard, which most AoC vets will want to do, as its a bit on the easy side, which may appeal to the HD crowd. It was a refreshing playthrough and a nice callback to an earlier time of simpler scenarios without 8000 triggers or map designs adjusting the off grid placement of every tree in the world. I have also made this as historically accurate as I could while still keeping the gameplay entertaining. What ensues is one of the great turning points in the decline of the Ottoman Empire. The garrison of Vienna, comanded by General Starhemberg, is on it's last legs, suffering from hunger and fatigue as a relief force of 80,000 men from Poland and the Holy Roman Empire, under Jan III Sobieski, King of Poland, approaches to relieve the city from the Ottoman army of over 100,000 men. The Ottoman Empire under Grand Vizier Merzifonlu Kara is encamped around Vienna in a siege that is approaching the end of it's second month.
